Huma Qureshi

Huma Qureshi, an Indian actress as well as a model, is a fresh young talent in the B’ Town. Previously she had worked in various television advertisements and theatrical productions in Delhi.

Huma Qureshi was born in Delhi to a Muslim family. Her father, a restaurateur runs a series of ten restaurants around Delhi, named Saleem’s. Huma’s brother, Saqib Salim, also an actor, appeared in Nupur Asthana’s ‘Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge’ (2011).

She hails from a professional theatrical background and she has worked with several theatre based directors like NK Sharma, Sohaila Kapur, Aamir Raza Husain and Rahul Pulkeshi. Later on, she shifted to Mumbai and she went on to shoot for almost fifteen advertisement brands namely Pears Soap, Saffola Oil, Samsung Guru, Nerolac, Vita Marie, andMederma Cream. The hard work and effort which she put in all these advertisements has led her to gain considerable recognition from everyone. She had even worked alongside several superstars of Bollywood like Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan in various advertisements.

While she was shooting for an advertisement, the well renowned director of B town, Anurag Kashyap after seeing her acting skills came up to Qureshi and promised her that she would be appearing in his upcoming movie. Qureshi thus started of his journey in Bollywood as an actor with a crime thriller titled ‘Gangs of Wasseypur‘ by Anurag Kashyap. Here, Qureshi played a supporting role of a character named Mohsina. Next up, Qureshi was about to make her first appearance in the Tamil gangster thriller titled ‘Billa’. She was to act opposite the well renowned Tamil actor Ajith Kumar. But, as the film was getting delayed, she decided to opt out of it because she had other prior commitments. She had also earned a lot of recognition and merit for her performance in the film ‘Sujata’. In fact for this performance, a Special Mention for her performance was made at the Indian Film Festival at Los Angeles (2012) by the jury.

Huma Qureshi had signed up for three other films even before ‘Gangs of Wassaypur‘ had hit the screens. Her upcoming movie is considered to be Bollywood’s first film to be based entirely on food. This film has been titled ‘Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana’ where Qureshi will play the role of a fun loving, jolly Punjabi girl. Presently she is working on the sets of ‘Ek Thi Daaya’, a psychological thriller which is produced jointly by both Ekta Kapoor as well as by Vishal Bhardwaj. She has also signed up for Nikhil Advani’s upcoming project which has not yet been given any title. Huma Qureshi has also performed to an item song in the Hindi version (dubbed) of a drama based film, ‘Trishna’ which has Frieda Pinto in its ranks.
