Shilpa Shirodkar was born on 20 November 1974 in a Maharashtrian family. Her grandmother was a well-known Marathi Actress. Her sister is also Bollywood actress who is well known as Namrata Shirodkar who was crowned Miss India in 1993. Namrata is her elder sister who started her career in modeling while Shilpa started with films. Shilpa started her career in 1989, quit the industry with hardly very few films, and settled in her married life and Namrata step into Bollywood when Shilpa was already out of it.
Shilpa first debut movie was Bhrashtachar in 1989 which has the lead star Mithun Chakraborty and Rekha , she played the role of blind girl. Her biggest hit was Kishan Kanhaiya (1990) opposite Anil Kapoor and Madhuri where Anil Kapoor played double role. She had other successful hits like Trinetra (1991), Hum (1991) where she starred opposite Govinda the movie also starred Amitabh Bachan, Rajinikanth, Kimi Katkar, Deepa Sahi, the movie was the successful hit of the year. She was also featured in Khuda Gawah (1992) which had the leading star Amitabh Bachan and Sridevi. She was also praised for her performance in the movie Choti Bahu.
Once again she paired opposite Govinda in David Dhawan comedy movie Aankhen (1993) where Govinda played double role the film also starred Kader Khan, Chunny Pandey, Raj Babbar, Raageshwari, Ritu Shivpuri.The film was one of the Bollywood Hit. In 1993 Pehchan was also released which starred Sunil Shetty, Saif Ali Khan and Madhoo. In 1994 (Gopi Kishan) was released where Shilpa was starred opposite Sunil Shetty, in this movie Sunil Shetty played double role Karishma Kapoor was also the one of the leading lady of the movie. In 1995 Bewafa Sanam directed by Gulshan Kumar was released Shilpa was paired opposite Krishan Kumar brother of Gulshan Kumar .In 1997 the explosive movie Mrityudand was released where she assigned the role of Kanti. The movie was based on the social issues of Bihar. Her last film was M.F. Hussain’s Gaj Gamini (2000) where she played the role of one of the villagers who fight against male domination.
Shilpa quit Bollywood for marriage in 2000 when she married Apresh hrashtachar, a banker of Barclay’s Bank .The couple now reside in UK with their daughter Anushka who was born in 2003 now Shilpa has dedicated herself for her daughter.
