Tisca Chopra

Tisca Chopra, did her schooling in Delhi, where her father was principal of her school. Later she topped Hindu College, University of Delhi in English Literature, she also started participating in theatre in the college. While still at college, she started writing for several publications as also plays for an amateur theatre group and college festivals.

After finishing her education, she moved to Mumbai, and trained in acting with theatre gurus Feroze Abbas Khan and Nasseruddin Shah.

She made her acting debut at the age of three, in a play. And her film debut with Platform (1993), cast opposite Ajay Devgan. She polished her acting skills in theatre in Mumbai and soon her work was seen in plays like, Feroze Abbas Khan’s Mahatma vs Gandhi, All The Best, Salesman Ramlal and Inshah Allah.

Next she shifted to television, where her performance in Television short films like Ek Shaam Ki Mulaquat and Hum Saath Saath Hain Kya  got her talent noticed & led to leading parts in a popular hit show, Balaji Telefilms Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, followed by Astitva…Ek Prem Kahani (Zee TV) and Sarrkkar: Risshton Ki Ankahi Kahani (Zee TV). She hosted a consumer grievances show on TV called Main Hoon Na.

In 2007, she appeared in the much acclaimed Taare Zameen Par with Aamir Khan, which was India’s official entry to the 2008 Academy Awards and won her many awards and much critical acclaim. Next she acted in Nandita Das’s directorial debut, Firaaq (2008).

Her next film “Rangeen” reunites her with the producer of “Ek Shaam Ki Mulaquat” and is her first comedy. A popular face with advertisers, she’s one of the most sylish actors around. Tisca is currently endorsing a skincare brand and a DTH cable service. She starts work on a new play and also a new Indo-American film later this year. She’s currently working on developing a script that she plans to produce.

Tisca’s married to Air India pilot, Capt Sanjay Chopra. She is a practicing Buddhist and works with several NGOs, supporting education and Women’s rights. She also work with the National Knowledge Commission (NKC), a high level advisory body to the Prime Minister of India, working for educational reforms pan India. Tisca has hosted the National Bravery Awards 2009, the Rajiv Gandhi National Awards 2008 and also a Quiz show on National Geographic Channel for the TERI, called Terraquiz.
